Is it the 21st century or the 19th century that we are living in? This cannot be for real. Everyone is admonishing teachers to incorporate the technology in the lessons but no one is saying what is going to power that technology.
The irony is a few thousand young people were given laptops to be used in the classroom. That is highly commendable but to this date where is the internet connection to support this wonderful thrust in the right direction?
Can no one realize that this generation of young people needs more than talk and chalk and that they are steps ahead of us the older ones where the use of technology is concerned? Hasn’t anyone realized that we are boring them to death with all this telling, telling when what they need is to be able to have all their senses engaged so that learning can be more fun and more exciting?
Someone needs to come forward and honestly state what really is the position on the access of internet in our schools. Then the issue needs to be rectified.
Someone also needs to do an assessment of the number of laptops that are still in working condition. When students are asked where is your laptop? The response from far too many of them is that they are broken.
My conclusion is that in making a move in the right direction, we ended somewhere in the wrong direction.
